Intercessions typically used at our Evening Prayer Service

THE INTERCESSIONS

L:         Let us pray for the whole church of God in Christ Jesus and for all the people according to their needs.

(Silence)

L:         We pray for the whole catholic Church throughout the world.  Fill it with truth, unity, and love, and keep it always faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Lord, in your mercy,

R:        hear our prayer.

L:         We pray for our bishops, our pastors [named here], for all who serve our church [especially .... ]  and for all pastors and vice pastors who have served this church.  Give all people the wisdom and insight to know your will and the strength and courage to boldly proclaim it in lives that are given to your service.  Lord, in your mercy,

R:        hear our prayer.

L:         We pray for the mission of the Church, that in faithful witness it may preach the Gospel to the ends of the earth.  We pray for the Church’s mission . . .

MONDAY:      through agencies and institutions which serve human need.  Bless Gaithersburg HELP, and all social service agencies.  Grant us the resources and the will to fully support them in their ministries.  Lord, in your mercy,

TUESDAY:      in its schools and educational institutions, especially Gettysburg College and Gettysburg Seminary.  Make them sources of inspiration and wisdom and instill in their faculties, staffs, and students the knowledge of your truth and the boldness to do your will. Lord, in your mercy,

WEDNESDAY:    in local congregations.  Bless and prosper the ministries of our sister parishes, Good Shepherd and Prince of Peace, and of their pastors.  Empower them for faithful witness and enable us to work with them and with all our brothers and sisters in proclaiming your Good News of forgiveness and new life.  Lord, in your mercy,

THURSDAY:   at Christ the Servant.  Empower us for ministry in worship, learning, witness, service, stewardship, parish life, property, administration and communication, and youth.  Guide our Council and leaders to wise and right decisions.  Unite us in love for you and for one another.  And draw us together as a genuine family in Christ. Lord, in your mercy,

FRIDAY:         in ecumenical relationships.  Grant wisdom and understanding to all who belong to Christ’s body and let love, toleration and patience come to bear on all our efforts to be united.  Bless especially the work of the National Council of Churches, the World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation.  Foster loving dialogue and cooperative service so that your Son’s prayer that “they may all be one” will be fulfilled in our time.  Lord, in your mercy,

R:        hear our prayer.

L:         We pray for the poor, the persecuted, the sick, the hungry, the lonely, and those who mourn.  We pray for all in suffering or in want: for refugess, for prisoners, and for all who live in danger.  In your love and compassion provide for them, relieve them, and protect them. Lord, in your mercy,

R:        hear our prayer.

L:         We pray for our Sister Congregation in Monrovia.  Merciful God, we thank you for the Lutheran Church in Liberia and the missions founded there in the name of your Son where Christianity continues to grow.  Bless the Lutheran Church in Liberia and in our country as we work together to spread the Good News of your love and compassion.  Lord, in your mercy,

R:        hear our prayer.

L:         We pray for loved ones serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places in the world, and all who work and  live in areas of conflict and danger, especially our military men and women,  [remembering to name those in our community  ... ].  Lord, in your mercy,

R:        hear our prayer.

Special Prayer Partnership on the 22nd of each month a Prayer Vigil for Peace in the Middle East:

L:         We pray for the Christian pilgrims who despite the grim news of the day, follow in the path of Christ the King in the Holy Land.  We pray especially for the children that live in the Holy Land, especially for those who have suffered over the last months, and, in many cases, years. O God, of our Advent waiting and celebration, we wait and celebrate with hearts that long for peace in the world: peace between cultures and families, peace between races and nations.  By your spirit, enable the people of the Middle East to discover and live in the gift of peace.  Lord, in your mercy,

R:        hear our prayer.

L:         We pray for the spiritual and temporal well-being of our parish and especially for the following brothers and sisters in Christ:

(Names listed for the day are read.  -----------  You may use your Koinonia Group lists, or a portion of the Member’s Directory for your prayers at home.)

            Lord, in your mercy,

R:        hear our prayer.

L:         For what other persons and concerns shall we pray?

(Here we list those who are on our Prayer Concerns List, as well as any personal concerns we may wish to petition.)

These are the cares of our heart.  Lord, in your mercy,

R:        hear our prayer.

L:         Into your hands we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through Jesus Christ Our Lord.

R:        AMEN.
