Gifts of Hope

The GIFTS OF HOPE market is your opportunity to purchase unique gifts to honor the birth of Jesus and benefit social ministry organizations affiliated with the DC Metro Synod and three foreign companion synods. During Advent a table will be set up in the back of the sanctuary, displaying the gift cards, catalogs and order forms, where you may purchase Gifts of Hope. Pick up a catalog and consider the possibilities for honoring friends and family with alternatives to commercial gifts as a way to share your faith and blessings and to advocate for a simpler lifestyle.

The catalog contains lots of gift-giving ideas that are both fun and inspiring—boots for a homeless person, baby kits for infant refugees, medicine for a family in El Salvador, water pipes and tanks for community water supplies in Namibia—ranging in price from $5 to $250. Consider our congregational designated gift of aid for Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mandeville, LA, to support their ongoing relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina. Enjoy matching a gift with the interests of the person you’re honoring. For each purchase, you receive a gift card, envelope and an insert describing your gift selection.

Gifts of Hope can be given at other times besides Christmas for all occasions. The gift description may be inserted in your own personal card to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s/Father’s Day or any special event. Now is a great time to stock up for the coming year.

If you have friends or family outside this Synod’s congregations who might be interested in purchasing Gifts of Hope through the mail, direct them to the website, http://www.lutherplace.org/giftsofhope/.
